An iconic Caribbean fruit tree
The ambarella grows a wide canopy of long leaves divided into numerous green leaflets. When in bloom, the tree is covered in small, whitish flowers clustered together.
The tree then bears fruit abundantly. Initially green, they ripen to a golden yellow hue. Their firm, juicy flesh offers a flavor that is both sweet and tart. Very popular in Caribbean cuisine, ambarella is used in many preparations, from fruit juices and jams to chutneys and fruit salads.
This tree contributes to the rich tropical fruit collections found in botanical gardens.
