A bromeliad with vibrant colors

Like many bromeliads, Billbergia pyramidalis forms a rosette of rigid leaves that naturally retains rainwater in its center. This water reservoir creates a microhabitat used by many small organisms in its natural habitat.

During flowering, an upright inflorescence appears in the center of the plant. The bright pink bracts showcase flowers with bluish-purple petals and prominent stamens. This combination of colors immediately catches the eye and contributes to the species' ornamental appeal.

In tropical gardens, this bromeliad is often grown in groups to create colorful accents under trees or along paths. Like the other bromeliads visible at Balata Garden, it showcases the remarkable plant diversity of the American tropical forests.
