Water lily

de l’espèce

An iconic plant of water gardens
The water lily grows large, round leaves that float on the water's surface, thanks to their long petioles anchored in the mud. These leaves provide shade for aquatic organisms and help limit water warming during the hottest periods.
Its flowers appear above or on the water's surface, depending on the species. White, pink, yellow, red, or purple, they generally open during the day and close at nightfall. Their elegant shape and subtle fragrance attract various pollinating insects.
Like the water hyacinth, the water lily contributes to the richness of tropical aquatic landscapes. Its flowers are among the most spectacular in the plant kingdom and make ponds a true focal point throughout the seasons.
