Chinese Hibiscus

de l’espèce

Colorful blooms nearly year-round
The Chinese hibiscus forms a dense shrub with glossy green leaves that showcase its large flowers. These can grow to more than ten centimeters in diameter and come in a wide range of colors, depending on the cultivated varieties.
At the Balata Garden, visitors can admire the chinese hibiscus with red, pink, and orange flowers, as well as varieties with particularly decorative variegated foliage. Each flower typically remains open for only one day, but the plant continuously renews its blooms in a tropical climate.
The long pistil, topped with several stigmas, is one of the most characteristic features of the chinese hibiscus flower. This structure facilitates pollination by insects attracted to its vibrant colors and nectar.
Common in many Creole gardens, the chinesehibiscus has become a true icon of tropical landscapes. Like bougainvillea or allamandas, it contributes to the explosion of colors that characterizes Caribbean gardens.
